Before discussing England, let us get one thing out of the way – Wales deserved their 19-9 win, not only because of their outstanding defensive effort, in which their flankers, Dan Lydiate and Sam Warburton, were exemplary, but also that they used what little possession they had far more effectively and inventively.
Nobody expected or demanded faultless fluency from England in these warm-up matches. Steady improvement would have sufficed, but even that was missing and after the game the England coach, Martin Johnson, struggled to explain why. It would be wrong and pointless to simply dismiss England completely because, as Johnson oft says – we are where we are; that we are not where we want to, or should, be is a different matter and it is pointless investigating the reasons and responsibility for this until after the tournament. The point to decide is what to do now and in the next two months.
England are not going to be able to play a varied, all-encompassing attacking game for a number of reasons, principal among which is they do not regularly create the right kind of possession at crucial times.
Their forwards will hold their own whatever the opposition, but it is not just a question of winning ball; it is being able to produce it quickly when necessary and repeatedly if necessary. A number of times when England’s backs, particularly Matt Banahan, took the ball into contact against the Welsh, their forwards, particularly the back row, were not on hand to keep the ball alive or win it quickly from the tackle. It appeared that either the point of contact was not where expected, which is poor, or it was and they did not arrive in time, which is worse.
One of the good teams in Europe apart from the Six nations and it will be interesting to see how this years event goes about, They are also known as The Oaks and will be particitpating in 2011 and are placed in group with the likes of Argentina, England, Scotland and Georgia and it will be really difficult for them to get to the knock out rounds. We will be placing of all the rugby matches to be played in the World Cuphere it will be interesting to see how this years event unfolds. Romania have been playing in the World Cups since 1987 and there best performences have been the 1 in the pool matches and thats it. It will be difficult for them to get any year, as they are not expected to do well against the likes of of England, Argentina and Scotland.
